Short Biography Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel received his PhD (1998) and
MSc (1993) from Imperial College London and King's College London
respectively after graduating from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Department of Eastern Mediterranean University in 1992. He joined the
Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, at Eastern Mediterranean
University, as an Assistant Professor in 2000. He was appointed as Associate
Professor in 2009 and Professor in 2014. He has served as the Chairman of the
Department from 2014 to 2020. He had been the deputy director of the Advanced
Technologies Research and Development Institute. Furthermore, he had served
as a member of the Executive Council of the Eastern Mediterranean
University’s Technopark. From 2020 to 2023 he served as the acting Rector and
Provost of Eastern Mediterranean University. His main research is in the field of Artificial Intelligence and
Image Processing. He is currently involved in many research activities
related to AI for biomedical image processing. Prof. Demirel has more than 75
SCI/SCI Journal Publications, more than 100 international/National Conference
Proceedings, and more than 8700 citations. Prof. Demirel has served as
Associate Editor and reviewer in more than 15 different international
journals. He took part in more than 10 different Conference Committees. He completed
the supervision of 14 PhD and 29 MSc students. Personal
